Body slams and belly laughs, what else would you expect when Kevin James plays an MMA wanna-be? Throw in a beauty and very funny Salma Hayek and you've got the big-screen comedy, "Here Comes the Boom."
Kevin James and Salma Hayek star in "Here Comes The Boom." Kevin plays a biology teacher-turned-mixed martial arts fighter today. In Miami he told Deco prepping for the role was unlike than anything he'd ever done.
KEVIN JAMES: “Only because I knew this was gonna be a different style of movie it wasn't gonna be like Paul Blart in the octogon where I'm falling around goofy.”
"Boom" is most definitely a comedy but what went on inside the ring was no joke.
KEVIN JAMES: “The UFC gave us their name and their brand so their concern was we want to make it as realistic as possible.”
Kevin gives as good as he gets when the gloves are on which came as a big surprise to his co-star.
SALMA HAYEK: I'm sorry but when you look at kevin he's like a teddy bear you don't think of him as somebody who can jump is super-flexible and super-agile he's incredible.”
Salma gets to show off her comedy chops as the school nurse. She's been waiting for the chance for a while.
SALMA HAYEK: “I love to do physical comedy and that's why we did it I said "Come on let me do something physical that's my dream to do physical comedy" and he said "Come on let's go"
Kevin knew Salma could get laughs since they shared the screen in the 2010 comedy "Grown Ups."
KEVIN JAMES: “She's great. She's just really really smart and she's incredibly funny. “That people don't get to see often and that i kinda wanted to exploit.”
OK, so they're both funny but we had to ask if Salma and Kevin went at it in an MMA match, who would walk out the winner? They both had the same answer for very different reasons.
SALMA HAYEK: “You know what I would walk out because he's such a gentleman and such a nice guy.”
KEVIN JAMES: “She just knows how to throw her body right and she crushed me in a place below the belt, and that just put me down. I'm not kidding for a good five to 10 minutes I was feeling everything inside I didn't like.”
Are we ever gonna see Kevin use his new-found fighting skills for real?
KEVIN JAMES: “There is no chance of me getting in the ring you don't wanna see that you really don't wanna see that i'd be a pile of sweat and puke that's what I would be.”
