Cloud Atlas is a tangled web of stories almost too vast for the big screen. It spans lifetimes with characters reborn over and over again.
They change so much even the actors were a little cloudy on recognizing each other while filming it.
Tom Hanks and Halle Berry play multiple characters intertwined throughout mutliple lifetimes in an epic journey called "Cloud Atlas."
In fact all the main actors play multiple roles including jim sturgess hugh grant and susan sarandon.
TOM HANKS: "Theres a reason for it.You are playing complimentary characters that evolve over the course of all the stories."
TOM HANKS: "You had to suck it up in order to go at it full bore."
Halle's a 1970's journalist a sci-fi traveler from the future nd a 1930's Jewish trophy wife, Tom is a thieving 30's hotel clerk. A courrupt 19th century doctor and a modernday thug.
It's about human connectedness but knowing the actors in some scenes not so eas even for the stars.
JIM STURGESS: "I did a scene with Halle Berry and I didn't even know it was her. I had no idea that was even Halle sitting there for about an hour while we shot that scene."
TOM HANKS: "Happened a couple of times. I was in a scene with Jim and I didn't know it was Jim."
Playing so many roles? An actor's dream.
TOM HANKS: "It was a blast. It was more fun than I think I've ever really had on a movie, because..."
HALLE BERRY: "You had a knowing while you were making this movie this will probably never happen again"
