Some people just can't live without their phones, if you want some peace and quiet around dinnertime, one local restaurant is trying to clear the air. Michy's in Miami is getting customers to put away their phones not by putting a sign on the door. They're using the time honored tradition of bribery.
Thanks to technology, people are connected like never before. But instead of connecting over words with friends.
Michelle Bernstein wants you to connect the old fashioned way.
NICHOLAS PATON: "I know when I was growing up and Michelles families every night we would have dinner together we would talk about what we did that day and what we did in school and what were learning and we don't see that as much anymore."
If you can live without your iphone for an hour Michy's in Miami has a sweet deal.
NICHOLAS PATON: "Every sunday now were trying to get the fams out of the house. If you can have a full meal without the phone then everyone at the table gets a free red velvet cupcake.
And if you've ever had a Michy's cupcake, you'll probably just leave your phone in the car locked in the glovebox they are delish
ROBYN RICE: "We all need more time away from our phones and tune in to family.
NOAH RICE: "I almost didn't make it, i needed my wife to remind me to put my phone away i'm glad she did tho because the cupcake was delicious."
But if the fate of the western world depends on you answering an email or you just want to tweet a picture of your cat, Michy's won't throw you out.
NICHOLAS PATON: "If someones on their phone or ipad were not gonna come around and get a smack but they're def not getting a cupcake from us."
