Familiarity either breeds contempt or love. Like us, I love you pumpkin. The stars of "Gangster Squad" were intimately familiar with each other before things even got started and they're telling Deco: That's a good thing.

As Sergeant O'mara, Josh Brolin squares off against his milk co-star and real life friend - Sean Penn -once again in "Gangster Squad."

Only this time Sean's the bad guy - gangster Mickey Cohen...Josh: The cop goin' rogue to take him down.

JOSH BROLIN: "It was nice because they're different roles you know. We got to switch it around."

JOSH BROLIN: "There's a good you know aspect to Sean's character. There's a bad aspect to this O'Mara character. So I think that's why we ultimately wanted to do it together."

Josh and his gangster squad take on Mickey and thugs, but Sean got the better of Josh while shooting.

JOSH BROLIN: "I got I got - Sean clipped me once."

Good thing their buds cuz Josh's got a mean right hand.

JOSH BROLIN: "I wouldn't get him back just to get him back because we have a friendship. Had it been another actor I might have done that."

Squad member Ryan Gosling had a pal on set too "Crazy Stupid Love" co-star Emma Stone.

RYAN GOSLING: "That was the problem you know, Emma Stone - she's got a mouth and she likes to run it! you know."

EMMA STONE: "That's kind of the rapport that we've established just because we had done a movie together before and it was a comedy."

RYAN GOSLING: "We had ahh just you know too much fun. Out of our performances because us trying to be serious in front of one another is pretty funny."
