2013 is the year of the snake, and not because of Lance Armstrong. It's the year of the snake in the Chinese zodiac Chinese New Year kicks off this month and one of soflo's most luxurious hotels got the party started in high style.

We didn't have to take a 25 hour flight to Shanghai to experience the mysteries of the orient. The Mandarin Oriental Hotel on Brickell Key threw a New Year's bash for the ages.

SIMON FRICKER: "China New Year is the most important holiday in China and it comes from the Chin zodiac the 12 zodiac signs, they are animals and for the year upcoming it's going to be the year of the snake for 2013."

The traditional Chinese dancers kept guests on their toes.

After a little champagne, these party peeps were in the mood for Chinese and believe me, the mandarin delivers.

SIMON FRICKER: "After that you can choose between two restaurant. one is our fine dining rest. Azul and our Asian inspired Cafe Sambal? There you can enjoy an auth. chin. meal."

Those born in the year of the snake are blessed with graciousness and intelligence so we had to ask what's your sign?

SIMON FRICKER: "Year of the dragon, i look like a dragon right? I think I'm a pig, coz i know it was something gross or something."

So it doesn't matter if you're a pig, a monkey or even a rooster, the mandarin oriental has a message for you.

SIMON FRICKER: "I wish you all a happy chin new year, gong hey fat Choi."
