More Bang for Your Buck: 53 Bang/Cars
There are certain cars most people only dream about driving. Vintage vehicles seldom seen anymore. But in tonight's More Bang for Your Buck, we found one company is now making these very rare automobiles more affordable.
WSVN--They're an american classic.
Cars more appropriate for a road show than a road trip.
But what costs millions of dollars in a showroom can now be your's for 13 grand, if you're willing to do a little handy work.
David Smith: "The real attraction is the challenge of building your own car."
David Smith is the CEO of Factory Five Racing in Wareham, Massachusetts.
His company sells car kits to Automotive Aficionados.
Think of them as models you can actually drive and its perfectly legal.
Everything's included except most of the mechanical parts like the engine and transmission.
David Smith: "It's for a real hard core guy that's going to build his own car."
And what a car you can build.
At Factory Five, customers can choose from a roadster to a coupe to a Spyder GT.
Just like the good old days, but better.
David Smith: "You learn to have a lot of patience. It's frustrating at times but it's great satisfaction."
Carlos Blanco from Pembroke Pines built a Shelby Cobra.
The entire vehicle took about two years to complete.
But seeing the finished project excelerates his excitement.
Carlos Blanco: "It's been a dream of mime since I was 15 and saw my first Cobra."
In fact, Carlos loved it so much, he's helping his friend Luis also build his first Cobra.
Carlos Blanco: "The savings are substantial and you cannot put a price on the fun you'll have building it."
Or the fun you'll have driving it.
Carlos Blanco: "It's incredible the satisfaction after you build something like this."
Now if you don't know how to build a car, there are options.
You can join a local car club, enroll in the factory five building school for a few days, or have Factory Five build one for you.
