More Bang for Your Buck: Summer Camp Alternatives
School's out and summer is here. That means the kids want an unforgettable adventure. While adults just want to forget how much they're spending. 7's Beatriz Canals has some cool, cheap ways to keep the family entertained.
(WSVN) Uh -oh... The summer boredom is already setting in. But, it doesn't have to! just ask Alicia Reyes. She has a plan to savor the summer and save money on her children.
Alicia Reyes, who's waving on summer activities, says "You have a whole summer, 2 and a half months and it's 7 days a week so anything that I could save money and they would still learn and have a good time - I think it would be great!
A great idea and a feasable idea - if you know where to go. Vicki McCash Brennan, South Florida Parenting, says "There are really fun and wonderful and inexpensive things to do with your kids."
Vicki Mccash Brennan of South Florida parenting magazine suggests trying nature parks first.
"Up in Boca Raton- the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center - it's free and it's right on A1A in Boca Raton."
Arch Creek Park in North Miami Beach is also free and don't forget Key Biscayne either.
"You can go to Crandon Park and enjoy one of the most beautiful beaches in the world and it's very shallow so it's good for little children."
For educational fun, the Young At Art children's Museum in Davie is just $5 for kids. "It's a place to teach children about art and creativity."
Or there's the Historical Museum of South Florida - it's free for kids under 6.
"Kids can dress up in pioneer costumes, they can climb on a trolley and try to ride a trolley and they get to sort of experience history first hand, hands on."
Don't forget libraries, they're always free and have great summer programs and try to get your hands on one of these great kids passes.
"You can pick this up for $10 and it gives you free children's admission to more than 40 places that are fun for kids in south Florida."
It's good for one year and includes activities like Marlins games and Miami Sol games. Alicia knows you can't put a price tag on quality time. She says this is one summer to get your money's worth.
