More Bang for Your Buck: Rx for Savings
The cost of medicine is enough to make anyone sick. So if just paying for pills makes you queasy, there is a cure.
(WSVN) America spent 1 hundred 42 billion dollars last year on prescription drugs. But not everybody headed to their local drug store. With prescription prices soaring, many consumers are clicking thier way to savings.
Greg Nazereth, WalMart, says "Its as simple as going to the internet..there will be an icon..click on pharmacy."
From national chains to internet only drug stores.. business is booming.
"It just took off like wild fire. In busy stores that were filling 600 to 700 hundred perscriptions a day we had almost a 100 perscptions a day being done on line."
And talk about easy...
"Saving you all kinds of time and inconvienace of having to come in."
Not to mention, the amount of money you'll save.
We went online to look at prices for three common drugs: Lipitor, Celebrex, and Prozac.
What did we find? Buying online will save you ten dollars a bottle.
And when it comes to finding their generic equivalents, the savings skyrocketed even more - the difference: almost forty dollars.
"What alot of consumers don't realize is that alot of the generics made today are made by branded manufactures."
The only drawback: some sites charge a shipping fee, delivery can take up to two weeks, and you lose the personal contact.
"Personally, I think buying medications at a local pharmacy is more important because basically were able to catch any drug interactions."
And be careful of where you buy from, Florida has laws that regulate pharmacies
Mario Kaller, The Chemist, says "Here in Florida you're permitted a 3 to 1 ratio basically 1 pharmacist to 3 technicians and thats the law."
That means when Florida residents buy medicine online, they are guaranteed their prescription will be filed by a licensed pharmacist.
So you can feel better about what's inside the bottle.
