The Best of South Florida: Best Cuban Food
Philly has its cheesesteak, Texas has its barbeque, and South Florida has its Cuban food. If you're looking for a taste of Havana or - for that matter - Little Havana, this is the place to be. But with so much competition, we once again asked our viewers to find the Best Cuban Restaurants in South Florida.
(WSVN) -- If you favor the flavor of Cuban food, you'll love South Florida.
Sure, the menu can be difficult to pronounce, but we promise every meal is muy bien.
"If you rate her from one to 10, I'll give her a 10."
And that's why our viewers say the third best place for Cuban food is the Latin American Cafeteria at Bayside.
"We treat the customer like family."
And in this family, every customer gets a real Cuban meal just like their Madre used to make it.
"This restaurant has a combination of excellent service, which is typical of Cuban anyway, gracious people, business, like family."
Yet many people say there is nothing typical about this breath-taking view...
In fact, it's nothing short of picture perfect.
"The scenery is great here."
But if you're looking for a scene that captivates the spirit of Cuba, try the number two pick... La Carreta in Little Havana.
"It's la bonchee the salsa the spirit, and everybody likes to come here."
And you can come here whenever you want because this fiesta stays open 24 hours - 7 days a week.
"At one or two in the morning, everybody leaves all the parties they come here and this is like a big feast."
Plus there's an added bonus...
"Margaritas, they're very strong (laughs)."
And you'll laugh when you see how little they charge for such a marvelous meal.
"Good food, right price, and that's what makes us different."
"It's good. I love it. I love it. I really do."
If you want the very Best Cuban Food around, just look for the one place that has more traffic than 8th street itself.
Just get in line here for a cafe con leche, un pastelito, we're talking Versailles the one and only.
"Versailles is the place to see and to be seen."
"When you walk in you feel a vibrance of energy thats very exciting and fun.
That excitement is because this is more than a restaurant, it's an institution... and for many, a home away from home.
"I have been coming here almost daily since 1972."
"We've been coming here all of our lives."
And they'll be coming back for real meals made by Cuban cooks with original Cuban recipes.
Laurie asks, "Is it the food or the people?" Answer: "Two, the food and the people."
"I think it can really be said that Versailles encompasses the culture of Miami."
Next week, get ready ladies. We'll show you the Best Place to Buy a Bridal Gown. Also go ahead and vote for the Best Florist in South Florida.
