All The Best of South Florida

In the words of Jackie Gleason, "how sweet it is." Whether it's for breakfast, a snack, or dessert, there's nothing better than a hot donut melting in your mouth. And when it comes to the tastiest, South Florida has two of the best doughnut shops around.

(WSVN) In the words of Jackie Gleason, "how sweet it is." Whether it's for breakfast, a snack, or dessert, there's nothing better than a hot donut melting in your mouth. And when it comes to the tastiest, South Florida has two of the best doughnut shops around.

Whether they're powdered, glazed, chocolate-frosted, or jelly-filled, everyone has a favorite doughnut.

If your eyes become glazed looking at a glazed donut, you're not alone. 50 years experience plus freshness is why our viewers chose Dunkin Donuts as the second best donut shop in South Florida.

Omar Martinez, Dunkin Donuts Franchise Owner, says, "There's no question about it. I mean we make the best donuts and there's nobody can compare to dunkin donuts." Omar Martinez owns five stores on Miami Beach. Customers can choose from 45 varieties of donuts plus muffins, bagels, sandwiches and of course, you can't forget the coffee.

He says, "Our coffee is made fresh every eight minutes. We actually cannot keep up with the demand."

The donuts are made fresh two to three times a day. First they're mixed, then cut, then fried. customers say they've got it right.

But some of our viewers might argue with that. That's because whenever you see one of these boxes, you know what's inside can't last for very long. What makes Krispy Kreme doughnuts so popular? Just like the sign says, you can get them hot, anytime of day.

Jesse Mendez, Krispy Kreme Manager, says, "Krispy Kreme has worked on a formula for many many years and it's worked for all these years."

According to our viewers, Krispy Kreme is the number one donut shop in South Florida. North Miami Store Manager, Jesse Mendez says the secret is in the dough.

The doughnuts cool on a conveyor belt, that circles the store. Some are frosted, others filled. After that, the hot light goes on, and they're ready to eat.

Krispy Kreme is like the Mecca to these guys. In fact, Fred Harris has been getting his daily sugar rush here every day for the last 33 years.

Fred Harris, who loves Krispy Kreme, says, "My wife gets mad at me because I don't eat my supper. I say I'm going back to the donut shop. I love my doughnuts, that's all I can say."

You may want to work off those donuts washing your car or better yet, sit back and let someone else do it.
