She's an Emmy award winning journalist by day. But, by night, Lynn Martinez's baking puts Betty Crocker to shame. We're grabbing A Bite With Belkys and Lynn.
Belkys Nerey: "Hey everybody welcome to a bite with belkys today i'm making something with my good friend Lynn Martinez who doesn't get into her kitchen much but when she does she makes her world famous Barbie Cake."
Lynn Martinez: "Remember, Belkys, it may not taste good but we're gonna make up for it in the way that it looks... It's gonna be cute and super easy. Who cares what it tastes like! This is what we start with a box; it's you're new best friend. Let's read the directions."
Start with your favorite cake mix and just follow the directions...
Ingredients (cake mix):
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
- 1 and 1/3 cups of water
Lynn Martinez: "For me this is my secret it's a mold that you can buy anywhere. What a big secret it's a mold that you can buy anywhere."
Method of Preparation:
-Make sure to butter and flour the secret mold, including the little stick it comes with.
-Then just pour in the cake batter, making sure the stick stays in the middle and bake it in a 350 degree oven.
-When the cake is ready, take it out of the oven. Don't forget to pull out the stick.
-Loosen up the sides.
-Flip it over and let it cool.
-Next roll out your fondant, which will be Barbie's skirt.
-Lay the fondant over the cake, then just cut off the excess.
-Make a slit in the top of the cake and put Barbie inside her skirt.
-And then just decorate her skirt using different colored tubes of icing.
Belkys Nerey: "Barbie's beautiful!."
Lynn Martinez: "No, Belkys, you are beautiful. Now cut me a piece of cake."
You can buy a Barbie cake mold at any cake supply or craft store.
