He's a local shoe designer, whose soles are all about comfort and style. Now Donald J. Pliner is using that philosophy in fashion. Belkys Nerey introduces us to this part-time South Florida resident and designer in tonight's Fashion Forward.
(WSVN) -- His fancy footwork is made in the mountains of Italy, but slip on a pair of Donald J. Pliner shoes and it feels like you're walking on a cloud.
Donald says, "The real premise of Donald Pliner is based on high fashion comfort."
From cowboy boots...
To stylish sneakers...
To sexy slingbacks... You can find it at the designer's Aventura store.
He's got shoes for both women and men, including a new sport travel line.
This part-time South Florida resident was born into his family's shoe business and has had his own line of fancy footwear for more than 15 years.
Donald says, "I have to slow down a little bit but I work like 18 hour days, and I try to be as focused as possible."
His heart and soul may be in shoes, but for the last two years, Donald has tried his hand at jackets, pants, T-shirts and all kinds of accessories.
He says, "When I design my collection, I design it from the feet up."
Pliner's Fall 2003 collection is full of rich colors, metallics and lavish leather in a wide range of colors.
"Leather has always been fashionable but I think sometimes people used to think a black coat a brown coat and that's it."
Pliner says he designs 85 percent of his collection, and promotes the line himself.
In fact, you catch him along with his wife lisa and pooch, baby doll, in the line's latest ad campaign.
Footwear, fashion and fun... It's what Donald Pliner's all about.
He says, "I think I'm fortunate that I'm doing something I really like."
The designer recently opened a new store at the Village of Merrick Park and in Beverly Hills.
And remember...whatever you wear, feel fabulous on the inside.
