Every good fashionista has to have what's on the runway, but how about getting the look without the price? Belkys Nerey shows us how to get summer's look for less in tonight's Fashion Forward.
(WSVN) -- To get a leg up on the hottest summer styles, start with an ultra-high hemline.
That's right, the micro-mini is in, especially in a carnival of color.
"The micro-mini is very fun, it's very edgy, it's very rock n roll," says Kim France of Lucky Magazine. "It's not for the meek, it's definitely for somebody who wants to go out there and have fun with her look."
The trick to turning an understated mini into a major fashion statement... The right shoes and accessories.
"Even though the micro-mini is a look for somebody who's fun and young and edgy and trendy, you don't want to wear it with a high heel because that's just trashy," Kim says. "I think flats are great because flats really run the gamut."
From Mary-Jane inspired straps to sporty flats, designers are giving us license to mix and match this summer.
What's even better, high-style isn't wearing a high price tag.
"There's no reason to go to Madison Avenue to buy really great summer flats," says Kim. "Chain stores are a really great option, and the shoes are exactly the same and wear twice as well."
We found these thongs and canvas slides for less than fifteen bucks.
Also making waves on fashion runways, surfer chic styles like flip flops and Dr. Scholl-inspired slides.
Great for those military-inspired cargo skirts.
And don't forget your shades.
Over-sized plastic or rimless are the way to go this season.
These Fendi look-a-likes cost just seven dollars.
Purses should also carry a statement this spring.
Bigger is better with bold color, embroidery, or wood detailing.
We tracked these for about fifteen bucks.
Other fashion favorites.
"It's nice to see things nipped in at the waist again," says Kim. "It's such a feminine and gorgeous part of the woman's body."
And don't be alarmed this summer if one trend makes you see double.
Moms are going for that "mini me" look from top to bottom, buying carbon copy outfits for mother and daughter.
Remember, whatever you wear, feel fabulous on the inside.
