Fashion Forward: Knitwear
Remember when grandma used to give those awful knit sweaters for gifts? Well, maybe grandma wasn't so far off after all. In tonight's Fashion Forward, Shireen Sandoval is showing us how "knit is it" for the spring, and how sewing can be sexy.
WSVN -- Try this for a spring fashion slogan - "Nothing but knit baby." This season, crochet, macromet, knitwear, and anything that sounds so not hot...Is hot.
Katharine Rubino from Neiman Marcus: "There are a lot of trends for spring but one we are seeing a lot of is the whole crocheted trend."
Homespun details are decorating everything from dresses to daywear. Even sandals and handbags are getting all stitched up.
Katharine Rubino: "You are seeing crocheted in shoes you are also seeing it in purses and in belts, we have a lot of belts."
And a lot of colors, but nothing's more wonderful than white. From cute caplets, to classy coats, and even chic little shrugs. If it's woven in white, it'll shout with style.
Katharine Rubino: "You can wear it to work with a pair of slacks, dress it up, or you can take off your crocheted sweater with your nice little crocheted top, it kind of moves into evening."
Still not craven crochet? Try something from Krelwear - where knitwear doesn't get any edgier.
Karelle Levy from Krelwear: "It's sexy. It's formfitting. What is great about the knits is that it stretches so it ends up being that any shape, any form, basically can wear it."
But what really makes these designs different is that they are all handmade. Even the mistakes make a fashion statement. Or better yet --you can wear em however you want.
Karelle Levy: "We try to tell our customers to be inventive and it's not like it can only be worn that one way."
These knits can also take on a formal spin with sparkling threads and floor length dresses.
Karelle Levy: "The color thing, the glitter thing, it's great i mean who does not like to sparkle, especially at night."
Between the shiny stitching, the fabulous cuts, and the creative color combinations, Krelwear has made yarn as chic as it is crafty.
Karelle Levy: "I think it's really exciting for the industry that it's becoming such a fashionable thing."
