Whether you're captain of the ship or just along for the ride, it's anchors away with your attire. 7's shireen sandoval is showng us how to get that nautical look when we go cruising in tonight's Fashion Forward.
WSVN--It's been a hot trend since the 1960's and 70's.
But this season you don't have to look like a crew member of the love boat to look fashion forward.
All you have to do is add a touch of nautical to be sizzling for spring.
Monica Martinez: "The nautical it's not what you think with the little sailor hat and the whole ensemble. It's not so much of a costume, nauticals more just some fun pieces that you can piece together."
Don't sail away, instead set sail for Blush Boutique in South Miami.
Here, you can find the traditional sailor look with a twist.
Monica Martinez: "Nautical is based around white, navy blue and red, and mostly you see the stripes and you see just a little edge of nautical."
Go for a blue and white striped tank with bermuda shorts.
Or try this yellow striped mini dress with these oh-so nautical rope straps.
From workout wear to a night on the town, it's all hands on deck when it comes to nautical fashion.
Monica Martinez: "It works in South Florida because it's all about boating, it's all about beach so right now it's very fun and very in."
You won't find any sailor suits at Chroma on Lincoln Road on South Beach.
Here, nautical is all about yachting and lounging around, and an occassional pirates treasure -- like this black and white v-neck dress, with coral and shell accessories.
Bonnie Engelstein: "Nautical is a very classic spring theme, it hasn't been around for a very long time and it's really re-invented itself in a very fun and whimsical way."
But don't forget about the details.
From the piping on these short shorts, to gold rope straps, to shell accessories... The look is all inspired by the sea.
Bonnie Engelstein: "This time it's more about putting it together in a way that makes sense for you. That is just has a feeling of relaxed fun, even yachting as opposed to strict military."
Shireen Sandoval: "Besides red, white and navy, gold is a popular nautical color."
