We wear them to exercise, to sleep, and to hang out. But t-shirts are no longer just comfortable clothing, they're also a fashion statement. Seven's Shireen Sandoval shows us how to get the look in tonight's Fashion Forward.

WSVN--T-shirts first made a fashion statement during the days of Miami Vice.

And since then, the trend has continued for both men and women.

But now, the tee you choose can say a lot about you.

Jacky Lewis: "They're coming out with such cute designs and you can express yourself and your personality through like different colors and shapes."

At the Electric Boutique in Southwest Miami-Dade, they've got this trend down to a "t".

Here, they carry designer t-shirt lines worn by top name celebrities, like grail and ed hardy.

Jacky Lewis: "There's a lot of hot new designers that are coming out and they're taking the t-shirt to a new level with like different stitching and the shape and it really shows off a woman's body."

Like this long sleeved tatooed t-shirt over skinny jeans.

Whether you pair a tee with casual shorts for a trip to the beach or dress up a pair of pinstripped bermuda shorts for a night on the town, t-shirts are appropriate for just about any occasion.

Jacky Lewis: "Probably to a black tie event or a wedding. That's probably the only time where I would say leave the T-shirt at home, but other than that you need a good assortment of T-shirts in your closet."

Look for a New York twist on the tee at Arrive Boutique on South Beach.

Here, graphic tees are very popular for men.

But for ladies, long tunics are the way to go.

Jana Adler: "I think it's a higher heel, a skinnier leg or shorter skirt, it's more of an 80's silhouette with a bigger, bolder top."

Also make sure to look for details, like ruching and asymmetrical cuts.

Jana Adler: "The cuts are a little more sophisticated but the comfort level is still there because it just reflects the way people want to live."

Or ladies, try this kimono sleeve t-shirt over jeans.

Even t-shirt inspired dresses are popular.

Here, it's all about looking good and feeling comfortable.

Jana Adler: "It's so easy to put on a t-shirt, but people want something a little bit different that makes it standout but that isn't a blouse."

You can dress up a tunic tee and jeans, by accessorizing with a wide belt.
