Fashion Forward: Leggings

WSVN -- Cyndi Lauper and Madonna were fashion divas in the 1980s with their leggings and ankle boots.

Well, fast forward to today and leggings are back in style.

Allison Bass: "This is totally 1980s except it's more sophisticated this time around."

At Bloomingdales in Aventura, it's easy to get a leg up in leggings.

They're the number one trend this season.

Allison Bass: "Leggings express your individuality and you can choose how you want to wear your leggings, and it's really a look that looks good on everyone."

March your way into fall wearing your leggings with either a long knit cardigan or a jersey dress.

Or pair yours with a jean miniskirt and ballerina flats.

Just make sure to add plenty of volume.

Allison Bass: "It's all about the modern layered look, and it's all about proportions, and you want to wear your leggings, something of volume on top and your leggings on the bottom."

At Fling boutique in South Miami, everyone loves leggings because they're comfortable and match with just about anything.

Monica Hernandez: "In the 80s it was more of a punk, younger look with the leg warmers and the big, cut up, oversize sweaters and now you can actually bring the look into the office or make it a little bit more sophisticated."

It's a look you can take from day to night.

Just make sure you wear yours with an oversized sweater or a larger top that?s not too clingy.

Monica Hernandez: "At night definitely with a pair of shorts, a big oversized jacket or a big oversized sweater, big shirts, and you could waist-belt it."

Plus, keep in mind that leggings come in every color, some even in different patterns and lace.

You can pick up the latest pair at Just Lx in South Miami.

Here, they recommend white lace with a leopard wrap around tunic.

Or, instead of wearing your heart on your sleeve, try wearing heart leggings under a pair of short shorts but stick to a solid color on top.

Monica Hernandez: "You definitely don't want to overdo it because then it's patterned and something patterned on top because then it's definitely a costume."

If you want your legs to look long and leaner, wear a pair of ankle boots or high-heeled pumps with your leggings.
