Spring brings a fresh start, especially in the world of fashion. As Seven's Diana Diaz shows us in tonight's Fashion Forward -- from preppy to poppies -- spring is definitely in bloom on the New York runways.

WSVN -- Spring is in!

On the fashion runways the look is flirty, flowy and totally feminine.

The season's silhouette played out at Nicole Miller -- big and blousy on top, tight on the bottom.

Nicole Miller: "It's flattering for a lot of different types. It looks very good belted."

But the dress seems to be the season's staple. Oscar de la Renta showed sun dresses in big, bold poppy prints -- wallflowers need not apply.

At Michael Kors, stretch is best. Stick to jersey and knitwear for easy care and style.

Michael Kors: "You could be going to the Academy Awards and have your dress rolled up in a duffel bag in the back of the car and just kind of slide it on and go."

For the long and the short of it, shorts are back in fashion -- paired with blouses and jackets to give them a more serious stature.

If covering up is more your style, roomy trenches and portrait jackets add instant polish.

DKNY is showing off a punchy palette of pinks, plums and shades of yellow.

Donna Karen: "DKNY really is the profile of the street and people of New York."

Metallics still shine in everything from tanks to tees to evening dresses.

Anchors away -- buttons and braiding give way to the nautical look.

The prince of prep -- Ralph Lauren -- featured a combo of the polo match, worthy casual wear and elegant evening dresses.

It was more dresses at April May -- Short, sashed waists, and even pockets for your blackberry.

And the skinny on pants? Still slim, grabbing the ankle or knee.

Diana Diaz: "And a final fashion footnote: Embroidery or eyelit on anything is in."

Next week, we'll take a closer look at the hottest spring dresses and where you can find them right here in South Florida.
