Fashion Forward: Time to Shine
Patent leather doesn't have to be black. We have to get out of that mindframe. The metallics for this season are very toned down. They're not flashy like we've seen in other seasons. If your wardrobe needs a boost, now is the time to shine! As 7's Diana Diaz shows us in tonight's Fashion Forward, one of the hottest spring trends right now will have you sparkling all night long!
WSVN -- It's everywhere you look! The fashion runways are sparkling this season with everything from flashy metallics to subtle shimmer.
At Ginger Apparel in North Miami Beach patent leather accessories add shine, but we're not talking about your basic black.
Patricia Pacheco: "Especially in spring, especially now this year, patent leather is white, it's red, it's yellow, it's navy blue."
Patent leather heels in an eye-popping color like red look great when paired with skinny jeans.
Belts in a rainbow of colors also help to pull the look together.
Patricia: "Big belts, skinny belts, the high-waisted belt is definitely still a trend. It hasn't gone out of style, it's on all the runways all through spring and summer."
Metallic clutches take the spotlight in gold and silver.
Or try a big, bold bag with a bright top and leggings.
The good news is you can mix and match metallics and patent leather and be bright but not blinding.
Patricia: "Mixing trends, as long as you don't overdo one or the other, is fine."
And the shine is not only in accessories.
At Oyuki on South Beach, you can try a shimmery pair of linen shorts with a pretty peasant top or go bold in a sexy dress with a lot of sparkle.
Joyce Chehevar: "The metallics for this season are very toned down. They're not flashy like we've seen in other seasons."
Whether you go subtle or really shine, the look is never dull.
This sporty, chic sundress gets a glittery boost, and details like ribbons and bows add a feminine touch to shimmery tops and short dresses.
Or glam up your everyday jeans.
Joyce: "You can actually pair a metallic top with jeans, even with leggings, so you can dress it up or dress it down."
The look is so versatile, you can even tone down a bold print with a solid patent leather belt, headband or clutch.
