This season, it is one of the most luxurious fabrics, but despite what you have heard, it is not just for the holidays. If you know how to wear velvet, you can even wear it year round. Seven's Shireen Sandoval shows us how in tonight's fashion forward.
WSVN--It is a favorite with the big man. But this Christmas, Santa Claus isn't the only one who'll be wearing this fall's most luxurious fabric.
Cher: "Black velvet."
Forget black. If you like velvet, it's all about color this season at Macy's.
Melissa Goff: "It is just not your red or black velvet you are used to seeing during the holidays. There's luscious teals, burgundys, auberdines, caramel, tan and natural colors."
Basically, whether it's the holidays day or night, you can wear velvet anytime...Day or night.
Melissa Goff: "This year, velvet is meant to be worn to work, afterwards, or the weekends or on a casual pair of jeans."
Ditch the traditional velvet dress. Instead, pair a pretty velvet skirt with a classic white shirt. Or go for a velvet trimmed jacket, with cropped jeans. It may be a classic fabric, but you can look very fashion forward if you know how to wear it right.
Melissa Goff: "You might want to mix it up a little bit. Infuse just a little bit of texture and pattern."
At On My Own Boutique in Aventura, you can also find the latest looks in velvet.
Sylvia Donnenfeld: "Velvet is that perfect fabric this year that can be either dressed up or for daily wear. I would say you could wear it till the end of February."
But just be careful you don't wear it from head to toe.
Sylvia Donnenfeld: "You have to be careful not to do too much velvet. Velvet usually looks good on its own. Either a velvet jacket or a velvet pair of pants on its own."
Pair a basic black cocktail dress with a velvet jacket. Wear a copper velvet pant with a cashmere top. Or really make a statement in this embroidered velvet jacket with bell sleeves. Whichever you choose, make it sparkle.
Sylvia Donnenfeld: "This is a hot look for the season."
