Fashion Forward: Splurge vs. Steal
You've made a list and checked it twice...But if you're low on cash for the holidays, we've got some ideas on how you can look beautiful on a budget. Tonight, 7's Shireen Sandoval is showing us how splurging is out and smart shopping is in --in tonight's Fashion Forward.
WSVN--Jessica and Ashlee Simpson have a million dollar wardrobe. Sarah Jessica Parker pays mega bucks for her look too. But if you thought designer duds were out of your price range, think again.
This season, it's all about looking like you're splurging, but doing it for a steal.
Sean Krebs: "We have great products for everyone on your list at an amazing prices."
At the Gap on Lincoln Road, you can find this season's must haves for a fraction of the cost. Here, it's all about cashmere.
Sean Krebs: "Cashmere is really the big thing you should be looking for for the holiday season, for yourself and for gifts."
But it can be pricey. If you went to an upscale designer, this turtleneck, denim skirt, ugg handbag, and michael kors boots would cost about a thousand dollars. At the Gap, you can get a similar look for about a fourth of the cost.
Sean Krebs: "They look exactly like those expensive splurge items, which we all know they can really add up especially when you're buying a lot of different gifts."
How about this designer cashmere tank top, jeans and ballet flats. Designer splurge...$753. Gap steal, $165. From entire outfits...To casual tops...To inner wear, you won't find a better deal.
Sean Krebs: "A lot of these items are just like what celebrities would wear and we love to see what Jessica Simpson's wearing and Lindsay Lohan, and it's good to know you can create that look at a great price."
Moderately priced retailers have even nicknamed it mashion -- fashion for the masses. At JCPenney, designer Nicole Miller, is getting into the game.
Nicole Miller: "I realized there's a whole line out there I wasn't reaching. They had nothing for the woman who goes to work and has a family."
From pretty floral suits. To printed skirts. To crop pants, you can get the designer name for a lot less.
Regina Haymes: "It's all about mixing the high and the low. That makes you a saavy shopper and that's what everybody's aiming for."
So this holiday, surprise someone... Make em think you're spending a fortune, when you're really getting it for a steal.
Sean Krebs: "Splurge a little, steal a lot and have a great holiday season."
Industry icons like Karl Lagerfeld and Isaac Mizrahi also have lower price lines...Which sell in department or superstores like Target.
