Fashion Forward: Renaissance Fashion
Katharine Rubino of Neiman Marcus: "You're seeing the renaissance trend, from dresses to shirts to even shoes." Madeleine Kirsch of C. Madeleine's: "I think women want to look a little more feminine, I think we want to look a little more lady like."
Everybody knows the retro style is very popular. But this fall, you really have to go back in time to be trendy. In tonight's Fashion Forward, Shireen Sandoval shows us why it's all about the Renaissance and Victorian eras -- also known as governess chic.
Julie Andrews looked supercalifragilisticexpialidocious in Mary Poppins.
Gwenyth Paltrow demure in Shakespeare In Love, while you may not picture yourself wearing these outfits of yesteryear, believe it or not, the look is back in style.
Katharine Rubino: Designers for fall are really inspired by the whole renaissance period.
Step out of the dark ages at Neiman Marcus at the Village of Merrick Park in Coral Gables.
This fall, it's all about high collars, puffy sleeves, lots of lace and embroidery.
Katharine Rubino: You're looking at very artistic detailing, very sensual fabrics, very feminine, flowy. A lot of shirts that go up to the neck, very romantic feeling.
Embellishments are big too, but today's outfits are updated with grommets and other hardware to create a more modern look.
Katharine Rubino: Even though it has such an old feeling to it, it's clothes are still tight and fitted, and very modern but yet still in that renaissance feel.
What's old is new again at C. Madeleine's in North Miami Beach. The vintage clothing store carries clothes from the last ten decades, plus the Victorian era.
Madeleine Kirsch, C. Madeleine's: We have pieces that are Victorian and most of the pieces that are out on the floor are authentic. They are not reproductions.
Try this velvet dress with a governess-style high-collar, lace blouse or go for a more elegant look.
Fashionistas say while taking it off was in style years ago, the more you wear these days, the better.
Madeleine Kirsch: Instead of the sexy look, they want something pretty now, they want something that's going to show off their femininity.
Fabrics like lace, tweed and velvet are also a must this fall.

To empire waists... Looking prim and proper has never been so in.
Madeleine Kirsh: Lots of bows, lots of ruffles, that's the romantic look// and I think in today's age today, we need a little bit of romance, romance was good, it's good to come back to that.
You can pull together any look with a long necklace, they're the must have accessory of the season.
