Need a little help when it comes to being fashionable but still dressing to suit your age. Famous fashion folks are sharing their tips about looking younger and cutting edge without falling over the edge..
(WSVN) Madonna may be over forty and look hip baring her belly. But let's face it most 30 to 40-somethings can't pull that off. Or can they?
Michael Kors, a designer says, "I think the most important things -- it's brutal, but it's reality, is sort of stand there with a 3 way mirror and say okay you ' what do I like about myself. Am I great through the shoulders, do I have great legs"
When you've pinpointed what's fabulous show it off. But stick to some general rules.
Like don't be skin city.
Calvin Klein says,"I would say no..not too bare. Leave that for the runway models. that's for fun and to make a show more fun and exciting..."
Sexy off the shoulder peasant tops...maybe not.
Micro-minis a big no - no...
At the knee is probably where you want to be.
For the most part, try to keep it classic.
Linda Wells, Allure Magazine Editor-in-Chief, "It always looks good if you wear all one color and you'll immediately look more pulled together than if you're wearing a mixture of things cuz a mix of things always takes skill."
When it comes to teeny-tiny tank tops..don't try to be Britney. Leave that look to the teens.
Mary Alice Stephenson, Harper's Bazaar Fashion Director, says, "I think what's so important about clothes is how they're tailored and how they fit your body and to spend the money on getting a suit that fits you well and is tailored to your body can really slice the pounds off..."
Classic wrap skirts and lower waisted trousers create a youthful and modern looking silhouette that can work for anyone.
When choosing pieces just be careful.
Of too much structure. It can pack on the years.
"If you see a woman who is over 30 and she's in something formal and stiff she looks old. She looks like from another time..."
But the bottom line is if it makes you feel good then wear it.
John Galiano, Designer, says, "That whole youth thing..it's how you feel inside but anything you can do that makes you feel good I'm all for it..."
