Gadgets and Gizmos: As Seen On TV
We've all seen them on TV. With over 12-thousand hours of airtime each week, infomercials are almost as american as apple pie. But everybody wants to know do they really work. In tonight's Gadgets and Gizmos, Tom Haynes shows us some of the better buys.
WSVN--You can't turn away. You can't click away.
It is the temptation of television.
Almost all of us have surrendered to watching a sales pitch of a product we don't need but have to have.
Get us at a weak moment and those infamous informercials have us impulsively shopping over the airwaves.
Ann Cook: "It's always great to get dinner ready. Let it cook and then move onto other things that need to be done."
At the Cook household, cooking dinner is usually a chore.
Mom Ann not only has to make the meal, she has to take care of three daughters.
But tonight, she's agreed to try something different - Ronco's Rotisserie Oven.
You know the one.
"All you have to do is set it and forget it."
And that's exactly what happened.
One hour after they set it and forget it, they get to eat it.
Ann Cook: "The machine was awesome. It was no hassle. The chicken cooked by itself. You just set it and forget it."
GABY: "I think it's the best chicken ever."
But wait there's more!
For dessert, we let the Cook's try the Ronco Food Dehydrator.
Admit it, you've seen this one too.
It promises to make beef jerkey, turkey jerkey, even all-natural fruit rollups.
Only problem - it sometimes takes two days to dehydrate.
As for tonight, the girls dined on dried strawberries, mango, apples, and bananas.
Gabby: "I think it tastes just like natural food."
Ann Cook: "It's delious. It has a great flavor. It's addictive."
Tom Haynes: "Of course, the worst part about cooking is the cleanup. If you want to minimize your mess, the makers of this machine promise a little magic.
"From chopping onions to making smoothies in seconds, no mess, no fuss, and the taste: Delicious."
And finally, if there's anyone who's looking for a cure to cleaning, it's the folks at the wags to wishes doggie day care.
Barbie Marquet: "It can get pretty grimmey in certain points of the day so we need something that will be effective, fast."
Something that "zaps" to it.
As seen on TV, this spray is worth the pay.
Not only does it remove stains, it penetrates the surface.
Barbie Marquet: "It was remarkable, instantaneous clean. No effort. Effortless. Give it a couple of minutes, wipe it away, and its gone."
And for the floor, there's the Swivel Sweeper.
It works on a rechargable battery promising to remove stubborn dirt from carpet, wood, and tile floor.
And get a load of this, it works.
Barbie Marquet: "You could turn the whole thing around and it could work at any given point."
So as they say in the business, Call Now! Order Today! Supplies are Limited! Because if you're not satisfied, your money back - is guaranteed.
Keep in mind, if you are going to buy anything from an infomerical, shop around. Try different websites, the mall, even drug stores. The prices do vary greatly.
