WSVN -- If you think a ponytail is just for a bad hair day, think again.
Andrea Dagostino: "One of the hottest hair trends this season is a ponytail."
Celebrities everywhere have elevated this humble hairdo to diva status by the sexy simplicity of the style.
Nicholas Penna, hair stylist: "This is something that's being worn on the red carpet. Right now, it's a very, very hot look. You definitely see it, you know, in fashion magazines, on the runway and on the red carpet."
From whimsical and romantic to sleek, sexy and stylish. With so many variations, there's a style out there for everyone.
Andrea Dagostino: "It can be messy and crazy. It can also be very slick."
Gretta Monahan: "Ponytails direct attention to your face, so it's very flattering for both day and night."
Andrea Dagostino: "You just put it up, depending on what your face shape [and] where you want fullness."
Gretta: "The hottest Hollywood looks: The high ponytail, which is a favorite of Charlize Theron. For ladies with bang: the perky ponytail is a must for Hillary Swank; and the sultry, sexy look of the wavy ponytail is held high with Katherine Heigel. Stylist Nicolas Penna says that even ladies with unruly tresses can give this look a try."
Nicholas Penna: "A curly hairstyle with a ponytail, you know, you're getting more of a romantic look."
Gretta: "But if you are looking for a sleeker style, you can tame your locks with some tricks of the trade."
Always start with a blow dry and follow up with:
Nicholas Penna: "... a great brush. Flat irons are definitely a must and coated elastics."
Gretta: "Height is also important for the look, so don't forget to tease your tresses, and a great way to streamline the look is hide the elastic."
Andrea Dagostino: "So you put your ponytail up first, then pull a piece of hair out of the ponytail, wrap it around the elastic, [which] gives it a nice clean, sharp look."
Headbands also give the classic ponytail new life, but the best part about the style is almost anyone can pull off the perfect ponytail.
