Gretta's Got It: Jewelry
You may have a lot of jewelry in your closet, but it can be hard figuring out what to do with all of it. One of South Florida's top jewelry designers showing you how to be your own designer and Gretta's Got It.
WSVN --If you use jewelry to make your style statement, good because I'm going to introduce you to one of the newest hottest designers around.
Amanda Jaran started her career designing jewelry for major labels like Jivanchi, Tommy Hilfiger, Nine West and even a Selma Hyatt line for Avon, but she decided it was time to string strands of her own.
Amanda Jaran, jewelry designer: "I walked into my boss' office in Rockerfeller Center and said I quit and they said yeah, go back to work and two weeks later, I was in Florida."
Jaran: "For me, it's about taking the flowers of every day and the pearls of your grandmother and turning it into a really fresh fun look. Wear the T-shirts, wear the jeans, wear comfortable shoes. A little bit of sparkle never hurts in the shoes, but make sure you sparkle around your neck. Make sure you put that lipgloss on and put on something fun."
Gretta Monahan: "So something like this, you'd see this in the store and say no way, tha'ts for a dressy occasion. But you're saying, which I agree, you can take something totally simple and jazz it up?"
Jaran: "Absolutely."
Gretta Monahan: "Love that."
Some of Hollywood's A-listers charmed by her collections are Angelina Jolie, Reese Witherspoon, Gwen Stefani, Kelly Ripa, Sela Ward, Angela Basset and more.
Jaran: "We're here today to talk about how you can take pieces from your own home, and maybe pieces that your grandmother left you and turn those vintage grandma pearls into a total fashion look of today."
Gretta Monahan: "I have a whole bunch of out of date jewelry because I made a huge mistake and just bought everything trendy, so what do you do in that situation?"
Jaran: "Definitely today, it's really about mixing and matching, so take one of the charms, cut it off, pull it off, , get it off there. Everybody can be a designer. Start stacking them together and really taking the beads and stacking them long ways. It gives you that big eclectic look that is really today."
Gretta Monahan: "So I can have this one chain and have a whole bunch of different necklaces. OK Amanda, I'm getting rid of my old stuff, because I'm getting really excited now that you're going to show me how to make something."
Jaran: "Launching a line using chandelier crystals as in lighting.
Gretta Monahan: "As in taking the dated chandelier you don't love anymore and pulling off these fun jewels."
Jaran: "Take the fishing line and you string your pearls, tying a loop around the bail, take the fishing line and you string your pearls."
Gretta Monahan: "Outside of needing fishing line and a pair of scissors, really, you do not have to have anything more technical than that to start redesigning or designing your own things."
I'm going to go and make myself some new jewelry and you can too. I'm Gretta for Gretta's Got It."
