Gretta's Got It: Workout
What you wear to the gym can actually affect how good your workout is. Seven's style expert Gretta Monahan shows us how to sweat in style in today's Gretta's Got It.
WSVN -- Gretta Monahan: "Whether you love the gym or hate it, the point is to sweat, but do you look hot?"
Gretta Monahan: "Let's talk gym style. What are the most common mistakes women make?"
Kristy Discipio: "Not knowing what your body type is and what you need to be wearing and what activity you're going to wear it for."
So set a good pace by getting dressed up.
Gretta Monahan: "You got it. Wearing the dress to the gym is the newest trend."
Many designers are making them because they are free-flowing and feminine.
Gretta Monahan: "What's great about this is you are fully covered and fully functional. Take a look, you got your bike short underneath. It's nice and close to the skin. There aren't any seams, so you don't get that rubbing and irritation."
Kristy Discipio: "Following on feminine fitness trends here, we have Nicole who is wearing the new running skirt, which is light-weight, chafe free."
Multi-functional fabrics and designs are a must. These shorts have reflective material to keep you safe on the streets.
Gretta Monahan: "They even have a very clever booty bag, so you can fit your keys or your lip balm. How great is that?"
Some fabrics even let you sweat without the smell.
Gretta Monahan: "Looks like just a beautiful top, right? No, see these little pinstripes? It's actually silver woven into the fabric working like a natural deodorizer."
For a good warm-up, try on a jacket. New styles offer a state-of-the-art workout. Check out this updated windbreaker.
Gretta Monahan: "Look at this, you can turn it into a vest when you start getting hot."
Many jackets have a zipper garage, a must. They cut down on neck chaffing and these thumb holes are great for weight training because they protect your hands.
To cut down the bounce factor, update your sports bra. The right ones will support any workout, and new gadgets make them fun.
Gretta Monahan: "Tell me about this?"
Kristy Discipio: "It's a bold color, functional, stylish, built-in bra for extra support, and it also has a place in the body for the heart rate monitor."
When you like a good stretch you have options. Some of us like them loose.
Gretta Monahan: "This is great for mind/body exercising. Things that are low impact. It's very soft to the touch."
But others want a figure-hugging fit.
Gretta Monahan: '"This lean pant classic Capri is much more functional in the class. This is super comfortable and flattering because it cuts the tushy in half."
Gretta Monahan: "Don't forget your sneakers. If you're serious about working out, you have to replace them between eight months and 1 year because the cushioning and the technology wear out."
The bottom line is that you'll feel better about what you are wearing, and the better your workout will be.
Gretta Monahan: "Well, there you have it. I went for drab to fitness-fab, and you can too. I'm Gretta for Gretta's Got It."
