Gretta's Got It: Jeans 411
Jeans may be a staple of the stars, but they should fit into everybody's wardrobe. Seven's style expert Gretta Monahan is going to help you get that perfect fit in "Gretta's Got It."
WSVN -- Gretta Monahan: "Let's face it, girls, a great pair of jeans is a fashion must-have, but sometimes finding that perfect pair can be a little tricky, so today I'm going to show you the best brands' styles to both hide your flaws and flaunt your assets."
Celebrities set the all-star jean trend.
Gretta Monahan: "So what are the brands you think are the hottest right now?"
Alison Barnard, In.jean.ious: "The hot brands are Rich and Skinny, Jbrand, Fortune Denim and Fidelity."
And a great pair can fit everybody.
Gretta Monahan: "Alison, is there one style fits all?"
Alison Barnard: "I vote no."
So you have to try them on, but first know your body type. If you have a bigger bottom, like J-Lo and Beyonce, you need avoid the back gap.
Alison Barnard: "The key is to get a waistline that is coming up higher in the right places."
Then it's all about the pockets and placement, not too big and not to small.
Alison Barnard: "They really need to be right in the center of the butt. The other thing is if they're set too far apart, they'll also make your butt look wider. She has no gap here, and she has good pocket placement right into her center here."
If you are like Mischa Barton or Kirsten Dunst, you need to fake a little junk in your trunk, so choose styles with bigger pockets.
Gretta Monahan: "Problem, flat butt. OK, what's the solution?"
Alison Barnard: "Get a little padding in there by adding a flap pocket. This is to give your butt a little bit more shape."
Jean companies are even making smaller inseams for petite gals. Look for styles with a flair cut leg.
Gretta Monahan: "The flairs are great because if you're curvy that little extra leg opening actually balances off."
Even tall, model-types like Gisele or Elle have their jean issues too. Your fit is all about the inseam.
Gretta Monahan: "I will never have this problem, nor will you, but if you're super tall that's a problem too."
Alison Barnard: "So she has on the Jbrand Dahl. It is a flair she can pull off pretty much though any style because she is tall, but this is the perfect inseam for her."
Are you a hippy chick like Tyra or Eva? You don't have to create curves cause you already got 'em baby!
Gretta Monahan: "Another one, thighs."
Alison Barnard: "Make it look from the hip down like one straight line."
So a high-waisted look is just for you.
Alison Barnard: "So Danielle here has a trouser. It's a high-wasted trouser. It's going straight from the hip down, so she has one streamlined look. The other thing is it makes the waist look super long."
This style jean also works well on gals with a mid-section, like Drew or Katherine Heigl. The smooth pockets minimize the booty. Once you have that perfect pair, don't cover up that butt.
Gretta Monahan: "While these tops are cute and trendy, be careful. Don't go too long because it will add unnecessary pounds."
And if you are wearing the "mom" jean ... get rid of it.
Gretta Monahan: "How would you describe the mom jean?"
Alison Barnard: "I would classify the mom jean as something that's at your belly button or higher, and it has a balloon in the thighs, so it almost goes out and then in. It, like, really accentuates that upside down pear, sort of, looking shape that's not flattering."
But what will make you a showstopper is to buy jeans on the tight side, they always stretch. Plan on having them altered and always just touch the ground.
Gretta Monahan: "And now you know what it takes to look ingenious. I'm Gretta, for Gretta's Got It."
