Gretta's Got It: How not to look old
Ladies, we all try to look as good as we can -- no matter how old we are. But, unknowingly, we're also doing things to ourselves that can "age" us. Seven's style expert Gretta Monahan has some tips for looking great in todays Gretta's Got It.
WSVN -- Gretta Monahan: "Let's be honest. Who wants to grow old gracefully? No one! So I am going to show you how to be younger and hipper in an instant."
To do that, I hit the streets with style guru Charla Krupp. She's got the 411 on some secrets that iconic beauties like Christy Brinkley, Halle Berry, Sarah Jessica Parker and Sharon Stone use to keeping us all guessing their age.
Gretta Monahan: "And this book should be every girl's go-to guide to be looking youthful and chic forever."
Gretta Monahan: "I'm approaching the big 4-0, so what are some best tips?"
The first thing you've got to do is change up that make-up.
Charla Krupp, author of How Not to Look Old: "Women are doing some of the same things they have been doing since high school, because for a lot of women that's the last time they paid attention to fashion."
And that dates you, so take 10 years off your face with Charla's easy beauty basics, and it's all in the technique.
Charla Krupp: "Brows, liner, mascara, concealer, cream blush, great pink lipstick is all you need to keep your look current, if you have the right technique."
And we'll prove it...
Charla Krupp: "Bethany is a gorgeous woman, but she does not look young with this makeup."
Check out the cheeks, eyes and dark lipstick. Ewwww. A quick change and she's H-O-T, hot.
Gretta Monahan: "Wow, honestly I look totally at her features not her make up."
So less is more. ladies. Look, a taupe eye color coupled with a brown liner on the lower lash line, a sheer pink lip and check out the cheeks-- the color is soft, but where we put it is a little bit different.
Gretta Monahan: "I love Charla's take-home tip, taking the blush and applying it to the top of the bone here, lower, like we used to do. That's a great one. Oh, I almost forgot-- never rim the inside of the lid."
For Victoria, we traded in her 80s look of garish cheeks and harsh eyes and again that dark plum lip.
Gretta Monahan: "And also no big, heavy duty lipliner, so she just looks clean and fresh and pretty and 10 years younger."
Gretta Monahan: "Now, one thing I always hear: Women say they want to wear darker colors to make their teeth look whiter. Is that a myth or a truth?"
Charla Krupp: "Well, that's what they do, so they wear a dark red with a lot of purple and blue in it, so what I say: Get whiter teeth!"
But coverage doesn't have to stop at your face.
Charla Krupp: "Many women wear nylon stocking, and there is nothing more aging than that."
An insider tip... skip the panty hose.
Gretta Monahan: "So how do you go? Barelegged? You don't go barelegged, you use a spray. I use Scott Barnes Body Bling. Slather it on and go! Go! Go!"
Gretta Monahan: "That looks great. Really good!"
Gretta Monahan: "So who would have ever thought something as simple as a lipstick could take 10 years off your face?"
