Living It Up: Florida Marlins Mermaids

Jackie: "And tell me a little bit about the Florida Marlins Mermaids."

Sandra: "Well I think we've taken baseball to the next level...now we interact with the fans, we do some dances, we also assist with the in-game promotions."

Jackie: "And lets say some young lady's watching and she wants to be a Mermaid, what does it take?

Sandra: "Well, I know I had a strong dance background...but it takes more than that, it also takes a stage presence or a crowd pleasing appearance you could say."

Jackie: "Allright Sandra, I know that you are pursuing a PhD so it shows that the Mermaids not only have the beauties but they have the brains."

Sandra: "For me I think it's the perfect balance, I'm pursuing a neuroscience PhD, but this gives me the art that's necessarry in my life."

Sandra: "Allright, let's give it a shot."

Sandra: "Allright so to start you hold the first four counts and then you are going to go 5, 6, 7, cross 8, up 1, 2, open 3, 4, turn 5,6,7,8."

Sandra: "How'd that go? good?"

Jackie: "That feels good."

Sandra: "Then we are going to do some Salsa moves. So your right arm wraps, your left arm is up and you're going to keep twisting your hips."

Sandra: "So from the Salsa it goes 5, 6, 7, 8, it goes 1 and 2, then you're going to turn, 3, 4."

Sandra: "This is the chorus part, you are going to go back, 1 and 2, 3, and 4."

Sandra: "Elbows straight, twist it around, 5, 6, 7, 8."

Sandra: "Jackie, are you ready to put this to music?"

Jackie: "Sure am, let's do it."

Sandra: "It's a good team spirit, You need to have a little bit of that in order to portray that on the field and put your best stuff out there."

Jackie: "Well forget me learning how to dance, we've got Jack McKeon here, manager of the Marlins, we're going to teach him how to dance."

Jackie: "You are a great sport."

On Thursday, Jackie's learning how to lead a parade. She's joining a group called the Florida Superstars.
