Living It Up: Water-skiing
Tonight, Living It Up is rocking the boat...and Jackie's making the wake...she's headed to Ft. Lauderdale where it's full speed ahead.
(WSVN) -- We are Living It Up in Fort Lauderdale learning how to water-ski. If you've ever wanted to make a wake, well now's the time.
Jackie: "Well, what are some of the basics that you'll be showing me today to get up."
JP: "Body position is very important, arms straight, knees bent, that's the basics, you really have to adhere to that."
Jackie: "And you were saying that people can only usually water ski for 10 minutes because it's that exhausting."
JP: "It's very difficult, it's very difficult. You'll be using every muscle in your body."
Jackie: "Tell me a little bit about competition skiing."
JP: "Competition skiing, there are 3 different types, there's the slalom, the tricks, and the jumping. The jumping is where you go over a jump ramp… The guys that are doing it today are going well over 200 ft.
And then there's tricks, where you're on a ski that has no fins, it's very slippery, and so you'll be doing turns, spinning, they'll even do flips."Jackie: "I just can't wait to get into the water."
JP: "All right, let's do it."
JP: "Now what you are going to do is take baby steps into the water, straight forward and you just slide in."
JP: "Let the boat pull you up, number one mistake, people try to get themselves up too soon and they just end up pushing their skis under water."
JP: "All right, now really get into position… where your knees are really bent."
JP: "Wow that is awesome! Yes! You are a natural!"
JP: "Okay, you are ready to be graduated onto the back line."
Jackie: "What a rush!"
JP: "All right, Jackie, get those shoulders back a little bit. Yes, that looks great!"
Jackie: "It was an adrenaline rush, I want to do it again, something I think I'll be doing in the future."
Jackie: " Well, I thought this was supposed to be a pina colada. Oh well, definitely needed this because after Living It Up Water-skiing all day I am exhausted, I'm Jackie Johnson and I'm going to lay here and relax and really live it up, 7 News."
