Bare feet on the hot summer sand - it doesn't sound like much fun... Unless you're playing a little beach volleyball. Tonight, Living It Up is lathering on the sun tan lotion. Jackie's in Ft. Lauderdale with only one thing to say...Game on.
(WSVN) -- We are Living It Up in the hot Florida sun learning how to play beach volleyball, if you ever wanted to learn how to spike it like the pros, let's take it to the beach.
Jackie: "Well what does it take to be good at beach volleyball?"
Gino: "It's different than the indoor game, there's only 2 people on a side so it's a lot of training, you're covering a lot more court than normal. The sand itself is tiring, the endurance really needs to be built up for this."
Jackie: "So outdoor beach volleyball is a lot harder than indoor volleyball right?"
Gino: "It's harder, skill-wise you have to have all the skills, where indoors you might be a specialized player
indoor there's 6 people on a team, but there's also 6 people against you."Jackie: "So you are going to be showing me some of the techniques today?"
Gino: "What we are going to try to teach you out here today is some basic passing skills, setting skills, and hitting, maybe even a little bit of blocking."
Jackie: "Okay show me the hands."
Gino: "One hand over the other when the ball comes to you, you want it to basically hit right here."
Jackie: "We've got the passing down, let's do a little bit of setting."
Gino: "Basically you want to kind of grab the outside of the ball, all fingers, and guide it down and guide it back up again."
Jackie: "And this way I'm setting it up for my partner.."
Gino: "To hit, basically they would pass the ball and you would come to the net and you would set them so that they could hit."
Gino: "He's going to pass the ball and I'm going to be up here setting him, he's just going to make a slow approach, come up wherever the ball comes and just kind of put it down."
Jackie: "There's a lot more technique to this than I thought."
Gino: "The game's not really that hard, the technique is the hardest thing to learn."
Gino: "Let's do some blocking."
Gino: "You are just going to go up, you want to swing your arms extend yourself up and just basically put your hands up."
Jackie: "That's a block."
Jackie: "All right those lessons were great but I'm ready to play."
Gino: "Oh these guys are nothing, piece of cake."
Jackie: "We can take them on."
Jackie: "Nice hit. Well that's what it's like Living It Up playing beach volleyball with the Florida Beach Volleyball Tour, I'm Jackie Johnson 7 News."
