Living It Up: Skateboarding
If you want to describe this evening's Living It Up, you have to use words like "radical" and "narly." Tonight, Jackie Johnson's trying one of the original extreme sports. She's setting her sights on skateboarding.
(WSVN) -- Jackie: "We are Living It Up riding the ramps at the Pompano Indoor Skatepark, if you've ever wanted to do this well grab your board and let's go."
Jackie: "Allright John, how long have you been skateboarding for?"
John: "For about 5 years now."
Jackie: "What kind of skills do you need to be good at skateboarding."
John: "You need a lot of balance."
Jackie: "Now I saw everyone doing these crazy flips up and down the ramps, what is it like when you get to do those tricks?"
John: "At first you get a little scared, you get the butterflies and stuff because you're completely weightless when you are up on top of the wall, but after you get used to it, it's alot of fun."
Jackie: "Now I know you've said it's kind of dangerous, people get hurt sometimes, what's the most common injury skateboarders get?"
John: "Broken ankles, I've had 2."
Jackie: "I think I'm ready to try this, let's get started."
Jackie: "Why do I always feel like I'm putting on a helmet?"
We should say Living It Up flashback
Jackie: "Allright, my first official skateboarding lesson."
John: "Okay put your left foot right about in the middle and you want to put your back foot right about on the back."
John: "You want to bend your knees right about here and then as you come back down you stand up and that's called pumping."
John: "Basically what you are going to do is, get one good push, get speed, and bend your knees."
John: "That's what they call dropping in this is like the biggest step"
Jackie: "This is hard"
John: "That's what I mean about patience, it definately takes a lot of time."
Jackie: "It's a lot harder than it looks."
More pay off, more reax at end
Jackie: "Well that's what it's like Living It Up skateboarding at the Pompano Indoor Skatepark."
Next week, fasten your seat belts. On tuesday, Jackie's getting behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler.
