All Living It Up

Tonight Living It Up is getting in the spirit of Thanksgiving. Jackie Johnson's hammering down some hope for those who are a little less fortunate. She's Living It Up building homes with Habitat For Humanity.

(WSVN) -- Jackie: "We are living it up today for a good cause right in the middle of a blitz build with habitat for humanity, how do they build a house like this in 9 days, well we are going to show you how."

Group of builders: "We are Living It Up with Jackie!"

Jackie: "All right Mary just tell me a little bit about what's going on here today."

Mary Lou: "Well we have a really exciting project, it's called a blitz build, it's called houses of hope, so we have 4 homes, we started them 6 days ago and we plan to complete the houses in 9 days."

Jackie: "Oh, that's great, and how do the families get chosen?"

Mary Lou: "The families are chosen based on need, willingness to partner, and ability to repay the mortgage. The willingness to partner, they have to donate 400 hours of sweat equity. They are not a giveaway, they are a hand up not a hand out."

Jackie: "It seems like a group effort, people really get involved with this and then they stick with it."

Mary Lou: "Absolutely. This is First Presbyterian Church, they're one of our absolutely best sponsors, we call them one of our angels."

Mary Lou: "We have a bunch of folks from the coast guard over, they are working on the shingles and they are starting the primer paint."

Jackie: "What are we doing first?"

Mary Lou: "Let's start with painting."

Jackie: "All right, and we've got Cheryl here and you are working towards your house."

Cheryl: "Yes, that's right."

Jackie: "So I can help you? You are actually going to let me help you with your house?"

Cheryl: "Yes, I am... I'm going to show you what I've been doing."

Cheryl: "We use a small paint brush and we just coat very closely and what we are doing is we are putting on a first prime coat."

Jackie: "Like this?"

Cheryl: "Yeah."

Jackie: "All right, Drew, so it looks like we have to get up on the ladder for this one."

"Drew: "All right, what we got going on is some wood trimming and we've got some Kilz primer that we are going to use protects against the weather."

Jackie: "So, I'm getting my official tool belt. My dad would be so proud of me."

Sally: "So what we do is when we place this first shingle down, we put it on this vertical line here and up to this horizontal line here."

Sally: "And then we put a nail 1/4 to 1/2 inch in on this side and on this side."

Jackie: "Well, it was a hard day's work but very rewarding, Living It Up helping to build houses for Habitat For Humanity."

WSVN is a proud sponsor of habitat for humanity.

Next week, Jackie's getting in the pool.... She's learning how to play water polo -- Thursday night, at ten.
