Tonight, what do you get when you combine basketball with acrobatics? Jackie's Johnson's finding out. She's adding a little spring to her step with the Miami Heat Extreme Team.
Jackie: "Well just tell everyone who doesn't know what the Extreme Team is, what is it?"
Ricky: "Well it's just like a coed team, as you can see we are trampoline basketball."
Jackie: "Well I see everyone has to be really athletic for the things that you do, how do you train for this?"
Ricky: "Well we train 3 times a week, 3 hours, I mean it's very demanding because you can't go over 3 or 4 hours because your body will break down."
Jackie: "Do they ever get hurt?"
Ricky: "Oh, yeah, yeah, come on. This is very dangerous, and I preach to these kids that they have to watch the landing
...I've got 3 knee surgeries."Jackie: "Just from this?"
Ricky: "Just from this."
Jackie: "So just tell me a few of the tricks that you are going to be doing today."
Ricky: "Anything you could possibly think of, we could probably do it
...you know a 360 dunk, between the leg dunk, we do double between, we do flip dunks, reverse dunks."Ricky: "See how fast you gotta run, cause you need that speed!"
Ricky: "You want to hurdle like right about here and jump 2 feet."
Ricky: "And Jackie has no speed, no speed!"
Jackie: "I'm scared!"
Ricky: "You are running like a girl!"
Ricky: "Run, run, there's a dog behind you run, now jump!"
Ricky: "Okay this time when you do your hurdle, don't stop, I'll catch you, just run full speed and hit the trampoline
...you are going to run, jump on the tramp and roll"Jackie
: "Well did I make the team??"Ricky: "Just concentrate on the roll okay?"
Jackie: "That's fun, that's a lot of fun actually."
Jackie: "Do you constantly come up with new moves?"
Ricky: "We have to, to keep it interesting."
Jackie: "I guess this is what they thought I'd be best at."
Jackie: "When you are out here performing in front of a packed arena, how does it feel?"
Ricky: "That's life for me man, These are my friends, and this is my playground, I love coming to work."
Jackie: "And that's what it's like LIVING IT UP with the Extreme Team, obviously I need some help to be able to do this, I'm Jackie Johnson 7 News."
Next week, Jackie's learning the best part about going to hockey a game.
She's getting to drive the Zamboni.
