It's the way a lot of retirees cruise the country in an rv or recreational vehicle. But before grandma or grandpa take their next trip, they may want to check out the latest in luxury rv's. The nighteam's Shireen Sandoval is kicking up her feet and hitting in the road in style in tonight's luxury living report.
(WSVN) --
They don't look very glamorous in the movies or on TV.In fact, for years, RV's or recreational vehicles have gotten a bad rap.
But forget the fake wood paneling and cheesy interiors.
Richard Demers from Palm RV Centers General Sales Manager: "This is one of our luxurious RV's, come on in."
RV's have gone from trailer trash to luxury living vehicles.
Richard: "The highest end motor home, you can spend over a million dollars for a motor home."
That's right, RV's are costing more than houses these days.
At Palm RV Center in Fort Lauderdale, you can enjoy the great outdoors from the comfort of this 40 foot long, air conditioned vehicle.
Richard Demers: "Everything that's in your home is built in an RV, everything.
And then some.
Richard: "There's something behind every cabinet."
From a washer/dryer, to a dishwasher, to a flat screen TV... It's all inside and in most RV's hidden from view.
The kitchen is packed with top of the line appliances and forget paneling -- wood cabinets are standard too.
You can also upgrade to plush leather seats for a smoother ride.
Richard: "The RV industry a long time ago used to give you one type of motorhome and that was it. People are asking for a whole lot more and motor homes are coming around now."
Like bathrooms with glass shower doors, and a separate toilet area.
Master bedrooms now come with a queen size bed, a full size closet and even a place to store your valuables.
Now you see it, now you don't, and we're not just talking about the awnings.
Most RV's are just eight feet wide, but the more luxurious ones feature slideout rooms, which are controlled by a hydraulic system.
You can have as many as four extra rooms with the push of one button.
Richard: "You get everything your home has and more. Your home doesn't look as good as this."
If you thought motor homes were just for those in retirement, guess again, seems they're becoming the vehicle of choice for 38 to 45-year-olds.
By the way, these luxury vehicles cost anywhere from a quarter of a million dollars and up.
