It's a Fort Lauderdale mansion worth $15 million dollars. But next week, it will be going once, twice, three times... To the highest bidder, possibly for a lot less. In tonight's Luxury Living report, Shireen Sandoval takes us to this mega house sitting on the block...The auction block.
(WSVN) -- It sits in one of Fort Lauderdale's most exclusive and historic neighborhoods, Rio Vista.
This is Star Harbor.
The five bedroom, nine bath estate is one of the area's most unique homes...And now, you can place a bid on it, if the price is right.
That's because it's up for sale, in an unusual way -- it's being sold by auction.
Carl Carter, JP King Auction Company: "Rich people are finding that they can reach a broader audience and go ahead and get that property sold."
These days, auctions are the way the rich and famous buy and sell their stuff.
Celebrities like Daryl Hannah, baseball player Mike Piazza and singer Barbara Mandrell have been part of a bidding war.
In fact, that's how the owners of this 19,000 square foot mansion originally bought the place.
But don't think Star Harbor will be a bargain.
The bidding starts at $4.9 million dollars, and you've got to have a hefty deposit just to get in the door.
Carl: "To register to bid each person will be required to bring a $100,000 dollars cashiers check and that will apply to the downpayment for the successful bidder."
Vernon Pierce: "Hello, welcome to star harbor."
But before auction day, we got an exclusive tour from the man behind the home's design - architect Vernon Pierce.
Vernon: "When you come in and open the doors you're on your vacation house, you're at your vacation location. It's a place that welcomes you home everyday."
Every part of this home is unique.
Check out the garden room -- with it's thousand gallon aquarium.
The living room is home to this giant mural of South Beach.
And the guest suite is where former First Lady Barbara Bush slept.
Vernon: The owners are well traveled, they have a lot of collective experiences and we wanted to try to bring those experiences to this house, so no two spaces are really alike."
From the orchid garden conservatory with a glass floor and retractable roof...To the 12 foot deep pool.
To the basketball court complete with a three point line... Let the bidding begin on this luxury living estate.
Carl Carter: "This is really the ultimate fantasy lifestyle."
If you're lucky enough to place the highest bid, you also get all of the art and furnishings inside.
The auction takes place on Tuesday, August 10th.
