Lots of celebrities are doing it, but are body cleansers really safe? Seven's Christine Cruz shows us why some people say they feel better after doing detox.

WSVN -- Normally, Peter Loftin is not this relaxed as the owner of Casa Casurina in the Versace mansion on South Beach he's always on the run.

Peter Loftin: "Stressed, tired, worn out, just not good. I was eating too much. I was drinking too much. I was excessive."

So he turned to Dr. Etti Ben-Zion, a psychotherapist and holistic health counselor who put him on her detox program.

Dr. Etti Ben-Zion: "For thousands of years we have known that in order to rejuvenate we need to purify first."

The 45-year-old mother of four says what you put in your body will determine how you feel every day.

Dr. Etti Ben-Zion: "If you fill yourself with junk, you're going to become junk."

Dr. Etti created a seven day detox program to clear out the junk. Here's how it works:

Dr. Etti Ben-Zion: "The first five days you enjoy delicious juices."

The first five days you drink only juice made from organic fruits and vegetables four times a day. The juices are supposed to help boost the metabolism and clean out the colon.

Dr. Etti Ben-Zion: "Day number three, we are ready to clear the kidneys and help the liver clear the toxins so we put beet in it."

By day six you drink specially made smoothies that are dairy-free.

Dr. Etti Ben-Zion: "It's made out of either pumpkin seed milk or sesame seed milk."

Dr. Etti says drinking the smoothies helps you transition into eating solid food again on the seventh day.

Dr. Etti Ben-Zion: "The food day is breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert."

She says her patients swear the detox program helps them lose weight, gain energy, fight depression and even increase libido.

Dr. Etti Ben-Zion: "To turn your own unique key to your own fountain of youth and start feeling alive versus just existing."

There are hundreds of detox programs advertised on line, but some doctors say it's all hype and there is no need to clean out the colon.

Dr. Barry Migicovsky: "First of all, the the colon is basically the garbage can of the bowel and it's responsible for cleansing itself."

Gastroenterologist Barry Migicovsky says most of the programs won't harm you, but he doesn't see any real benefit.

Dr. Barry Migicovsky: "I don't see any medical benefit that this will make any difference one way or another in your body."

For Peter, the seven day cleanse helped him drop a few pounds, and even made him breathe better.

Peter Loftin: "I did the cleanse, my nose, my sinuses were completely clear."

And says just focusing on what he ate and drank for a week really changed his outlook on life.

Peter Loftin: "Once you cleanse your body, you cleanse your whole spirit and your whole mind."

Christine Cruz: "Dr. Etti's detox program costs around $500 and includes the juices and food. Ovcourse, check with your doctor first before starting any diet program.
