Medical Reports: Help for Hair Loss
Whether you're a man or woman, no one wants thinning hair. Now a drug used to help grow thick, long eye lashes could do the same for the scalp. 7s Richard Lemus shows us this possible Help for Hair Loss.
WSVN -- Richard Paduda is only 32, but he's already freaking out about losing his hair.
Richard Paduda: "I just started noticing that the hair line in the front, kind of just going back a little."
He feels like his hair is thinning and most men want to hold on to his youthful head of hair.
Richard Paduda: "The concern is I don't want it to go back any further. I'd like to keep what I have."
A trip to Boca Raton Hair Restoration surgeon Alan bauman confirmed Richard's hair loss worries.
Richard Paduda: "When we looked at it under the microscope, you could see that some of the hairs were becoming clear and transparent, which means they are weaker."
But instead of giving richard one of the usual hair loss treatments Dr. Bauman is having him try a different approach, Latisse. By now, most women probably recognize the name of the popular new drug used to help grow fuller, darker eyelashes.
Dr. Alan Bauman: "We've always wondered, gosh if it's working so great for eyelashes, what can it do for the scalp? The exciting part right now is that Allergan, the makers of Latisse,
have initiated clinical trials, phase one trial to look at any side effects on scalp hair growth."
Over the last year Dr. Bauman has had several of his patients try the drug on their scalp. A small amount is rubbed on areas of thinning hair. He says he's already seen some promising results.
Dr. Alan Bauman: "Some increase in the thickness and caliber of their hair and a small increase in density. This could potentially be another new topical treatment, which could end up being more powerful than Rogaine."
Even though Dr. Bauman is very excited about the results, he's also cautious.
Dr. Alan Bauman: "We're really talking about prevention. It's not going to regrow a bald man's scalp."
Richard is willing to try it and is hoping it will help with his hair loss ...
Richard Paduda: "If I could keep my hair looking just like it does now when I'm 40, that would be perfect."
Richard Lemus: "Right now Dr. Bauman says there have been no side effects from using Latisse on the scalp."
