Have you ever wanted to pick up the phone and ask your doctor is this normal? Now you can. As 7's Mike Marza shows us a new medical app is changing the way doctors see patients.

WSVN -- Jennifer Rosenblum is a busy mother with two young boys.

Jennifer Rosenblum: "There are so many things I do in one day, it never gets done."

She was always on the run until something slowed her down.

Jennifer Rosenblum: "A very painful, burning feeling, from my ankle area all the way down to my foot."

Jennifer went to the doctor. Turns out she had vericose veins causing problems with her circulation.

Dr. Ariel Soffer: "The small spider veins are often the first indication of real circulation disease."

She had a laser procedure to correct it and went home.

Dr. Ariel Soffer: "I would say within 10 days of the original procedure something didn't feel right."

Instead of having to wait for another appointment, the nurse told her to just use her cell phone.

Dr. Ariel Soffer: "Take a photo of your leg, send it to me."

Jennifer used a new app created by app-works.

Chris Cabell: "This is extremely powerful technology that they have in their pocket all the time."

Here's how it works: The app leads the patient to a diagram of a body then...

Chris Cabell: "All they have to do is touch the area of their body where they have the concern."

For example, the front right thigh.

Chris Cabell: "Then this diagram is going to show the patient what area of the body they should be photographing."

The patient takes a picture and sends it directly to the doctor.

Nurse: "I want you to know I got your picture, I'll speak to the doctor and as soon as I get an answer we'll call you back with it."

The doctor was able to look at Jennifer's foot and let her know the redness after surgery was normal.

Dr. Ariel Soffer: "Saved her an emergency room visit, saved her a lot of concern, saved her some money."

Dr. Soffer says the new technology also opens up communication between doctor and patient.

Chris Cabell: "They're always just a push button away from their doctor."

Jennifer is back on her feet and taking care of her family. She credits the app for speeding up her healing process!

Jennifer Rosenblum: "It makes you feel like a person, it makes you feel like hey, this doctor's office really cares about you."

The medical app obviously can't replace all doctor visits, but soon dermatologist offices will be using it as well.
