Money Monday: Summer Hair Care
In the South Florida summer heat and humidity does it seem like your hair takes on a life of its own? You don't need expensive treatments in tonight's Money Monday, 7's Lynn Martinez is showing us how to fight the frizzies without breaking the bank.
WSVN -- Whether your hair is long and curly.
Erin: "It's completely out of control."
Or short and straight.
Christian Feliciano, Stylist: "Makes me seem like I have no idea what I'm doing with my own hair and I'm a stylist!"
In South Florida hair sucks up moisture in the air. The hair shafts swell, putting the frizz factor is off the scale.
Dania Galarce, Hair Stylist: "The good news is that you don't have to spend a lot of money to have your hair healthy."
Dania Galarce owns hair healers salon in Little Havana. She says you can fight the frizz without spending a lot of money.
Dania Galarce: "For us the most that we like is NuNaat, the Karite, which is a very creamy conditioning product, but L'Oreal has very good products that they retail."
Dania Galarce: "And Big and Sexy has something for frizzies as well."
And more importantly the price is right. Most of these products cost from $5 to $25.
Your stylist should suggest deep conditioners.
Adryanna Galarce: "The best part about it is that I don't have to spend big bucks on salon deep conditioners, I can buy any conditioner at any Walgreen's, any Navarro, any store really."
And stay away from products with sulfates and other harsh chemicals. They'll dry your hair and make the frizz worse.
Adryanna Galarce: "One of my best kept secrets whenever I got to the beach and the pool is to put in conditioner before and after I go into the water."
Heat damage from curling and flat-irons can also make the frizz worse, and daily washing dries hair, so keep it moisturized and try not to overdo your do.
Another way to fight frizz and save money, skip the hair spray. Alcohol in hair spray can swell hair cuticles and makes it frizz.
