PrintMoney Monday: United Way Tax Van
Everyone hates having to go out and get their taxes done. Well, now United Way of Broward County is bringing tax preparation to you. In tonight's Money Monday, seven's Lynn Martinez tells us how you can take advantage of this program.
WSVN -- Sandra and Edward are going mobile this tax season.
Edward Hoffman: "This is your standard deduction."
They're getting their taxes done for free at the Mobile Resource Center sponsored by the United Way of Broward County.
Edward Hoffman: "Today is the first time we came here and it was very fast and very efficient."
Five days a week this van travels the streets of Broward County doing taxes for people who make less than $49,000 a year.
Sandra Hoffman: "It's free to us you know, it's good it saves us money."
IRS certified tax preparers from the volunteer income tax assistance program help fill out the forms, making sure people get the tax credits they qualify for so they get back as much money as possible from uncle sam.
Mary Lynn Lovejoy: "We're looking at people who might otherwise expend their dollars they may actually be going to different kinds of locations where there is a rapid loan program. We just don't want people to lose their assets. they can put toward other things like food and shelter and education for their children."
If you qualify, make sure you bring a picture ID, Social Security card, including cards for dependent children and all tax forms including W-2 and 10-99 forms. Once you're in, it takes about 20 minutes.
Connie Guzman: "It's very easy, fast and free."
Nilo Rodriguez says he's glad he came.
Nilo Rodriguez: "The last couple of years I've been a little in financial hardship. So I was lucky enough to find this. I came out looking pretty good this year."
Mary Lynn Lovejoy: "It's a win win for the community and it's certainly something that we at United Way are committed to, to make a difference."
