Money Monday: Summer Travel Tips
Your summer vacation doesn't have to break the bank. In tonight's Money Monday, 7s Lynn Martinez is here with seven tips to save your big in tonight's Money Monday.
WSVN -- Darryl Randall loves to travel for business and pleasure. When it comes to getting deals his first move is to always ask for upgrades.
Darryl Randall: "If you're polite you'd be amazed at what kind of upgrades you can get in terms of spa services, extra time. In terms of hotel, extra space maybe a 4th night free."
Some places even allow you to book with guaranteed free upgrades included. Travel expert Robert Paulson of Book-it.com says one of his favorites is mystery travel.
Robert Paulson: "Mystery travel is there's hotels that sometimes they want to reduce their rate, but they can't for corporate reasons. What they are allowed to to do is sell a lower rate without their name on it."
For instance, a mystery hotel might be described as a 4-star hotel on South Beach. The area and star rating are what to look for...
Robert Paulson: "On a mystery hotel you can find the 50 or 60 percent off Deals."
Membership sites like Living Social, Groupon and Gilt also offer great deals on all kinds of travel packages and activities.
You should also visit hotel websites, sometimes they save the best deals for their own sites and use social media to make your Facebook or Twitter account work for you.
Robert Paulson: "Friend hotels that you like friend Bookit.com, friend travel sites that you like and that's the first key cause then you're going to start getting those deals to you."
In the past, last minute deals were the way to go but now more airlines and hotels are offering incentives to book early with advance purchase promotions and finally remember you don't have to go out of town for deals.
Darryl Randall: "Don't be afraid to check out your own hometown. There's great deals right here. Biltmore a lot of South. Beach hotels have prices in the summer that you won't get close to in the winter and you can have a great time, and you don't have the expense of driving or flying."
