Money Monday: Mindful City
Who doesn't want to be healthier? But few want to pay big bucks for workout classes or expensive, healthy meal plans. Put down your wallet. In tonight's Money Monday, 7's Lynn Martinez has a new way to find healthy happenings around town, and the price is right.
WSVN -- Catalina Rueda loves to run.
Today, she's warming up with the Brickell Run Club.
Catalina Rueda, Runner: "Residents of the community or people who work here get to come together and socialize, network, and at the same time take advantage of a free run."
She found the club's weekly free runs on a new website called Mindful City."
It was founded by Katie Jane to help people tune in to healthy-lifestyle activities around South Florida.
Katie Jane, MindfulCity.com: "It's absolutely free. If you want to find out the event, you just go to mindfulcity.com. You subscribe to our weekly e-mail, and it lets you know of different upcoming really cool events that you can go to."
Many activities on the site are free, like the weekly yoga class at Bayfront Park, or the chef's organic garden tours at the Palms Hotel on Miami Beach.
Chef: "This here and this is all African blue basil. It's one of the seven varieties of basil that we're growing."
Yamile found the tour online.
Yamile Ferrer, Likes Site: "The website shows you all the free events around town. I feel everyone should go to that lifestyle of organic food and yoga, breathing exercises, good lifestyle."
There are all kinds of healthy living choices on the site, from alternative healing practices to physical fitness events, even meditation seminars and workshops.
Some cost a specific amount of money. Some ask for donations.
But many, like this Reiki circle spiritual healing session, are free.
Woman: "Letting go, feeling the healing."
Juliano Echeverria, Likes Site: "They do a really good job of coming here and putting all this together for free, because they also do it, actually like 'karma yoga.' You do something for the good of other people."
Whether an event is free or not, fans say the site is like one-stop shopping that's good for body and soul.
Catalina Rueda, Runner: "Taking advantage of this beautiful city, meeting and networking with all different types, definitely a great website that a lot of locals can take advantage of."
