WSVN -- It's the busiest time of the year for shipping and mailing, but there are still deals to be had.

The US Postal Service says before you stand in line, go on line to www.usps.com for discounted shipping.

Lillian Castro: "Click and ship is a 24-hour post office open 7-days a week. It's just that easy."

To mail a package, just fill out the information online and pay with a credit card. Print out your own mailing label and schedule pick up at your home for free.

Lillian Castro: "You can schedule free pick up and you can save up to 11 percent discount just by using our online service."

If you do make a trip to the post office, you'll never have to pay for their shipping boxes.

Mike Lloyd "Anything that's our premium products, from priority mail, express mail, those are free boxes. Come in and get them. They come in flat rate, different sizes. You put your stuff in them and ship them out."

Lori-Ann was glad to get a freebie. She's mailing holiday goodies to England.

Lori-Ann Edwards: "So that saved me a lot of money cause it's going overseas. You've paid a lot for the gift and you pay a lot to send it so if it's free that's good."

Also, be careful when you're making out addresses; mistakes can cost you.

Lillian Castro: "Worst case scenario would probably be that you'd have to re-ship and re-pay again."

And finally, if you're shopping online, make sure and grab those free shipping deals. Send your gift directly to the receiver at no cost to you.

And take advantage of belonging to clubs like AAA and AARP. Membership can get you shipping discounts.
