All Parent to Parent

Music and medicine, you wouldn't think the two go together, but one Miami doctor is using rock and roll to take his practice to a whole new level. In tonight's Parent to Parent, Seven's Lynn Martinez shows us how "The Roc Doc" uses his musical passion to teach kids all about good health.

WSVN -- By day, he's a mild-mannered doctor, but don't be fooled, there's a lot more to this doctor than his noteworthy bedside manner.

The Roc Doc playing to packed houses at schools and other venues all across the country by mixing the ABCs of medicine with music. Dr. Steve Eskin strikes the perfect chord with his audience.

Roc Doc: "It's basically teaching without them being aware that they're being taught because they're basically dancing and clapping to a rock concert."

And he knows what his young fans like. He teaches health with a healthy portion of the gross-out factor: songs like "The Gasman," all about the smelly wonders of digestion and "Pewey Uncle Louie," a guy with a gooey cough and yellow teeth.

Girl 1: "It teaches me that you can't smoke, like, and you get mucous and yeah."

Boy Yitzie: "I thought is was amazing. I always wanted to be a doctor when I grow up."

And this doctor wanted to be a musician. He's been performing since he was 13. Now he's found a way to use both passions to teach adults and kids, thousands every year and rock out while he's at it.

Girl 2: "A doctor usually doesn't leave his office cause he's so busy, but to see that doctor go up on stage and perform like that it's pretty cool."

Parents and teachers think so too.

Laurie Mitrani: "I thought he was engaging, and I loved the way he got the kids involved, and I really think it's never too early to start teaching about health and about taking care of yourself."

And for Steve Eskin, being the Roc Doc is the perfect prescription for his life's work.

Roc Doc: "I love it. I know that it works, and when I see it working it gives me great pleasure."
