All Parent to Parent

Many parents find it a challenge to get their kids to try new things, especially when it comes to healthy foods, but thanks to first lady Michelle Obama, eating healthy is getting cool with kids. Lynn Martinez show us what's cooking in tonight's Parent to Parent.

WSVN -- Something good is cooking at Panda Kitchen with Chef Adrianne Calvo. It's yummy and healthy.

Chef Adrianne Calvo: "This is full of antioxidants and lycopene, the ingredient you find in ketchup. It's super good for you."

Chef Adrianne works with kids and parents, showing them how to have fun and eat right.

Chef Adrianne Calvo: "This is a nice little healthy after-school snack."

Today, we're cooking a substitute for greasy pizza: French bread cubes, fresh unprocessed mozzarella cheese and tomatoes dipped in a nice Italian sauce.

That got their attention.

Annie Lund: "I'm probably going to make it at home after school because it's really easy."

Parents and kids are getting more interested in healthy eating thanks in part to the first lady and the first kids who have planted a garden at the White House.

Michelle Obama: "I want to make sure that our family, as well as the staff and all the people who come to the White House and eat our food get access to really fresh vegetables and fruits."

Adrianne Calvo: "I think it's the most marvelous thing in the world. I think that is super important."

She says all you have to do to put kids on the right track is get them involved in the process.

Chef Adrianne Calvo: "Who can guess what this is?"

Chef Adrianne Calvo: "Make them feel like they're needed in the kitchen, and they'll become interested. I mean, when I cook with kids I'll say, 'Come on you're my chef, and surprisingly they really get into it."

And, who knows, they might even try veggies.

Jessica Matat: "Chef Adrianne taught me a lot today, so I think I might be able to try tons of new things."

And that's music to parents' and to chef Adrianne's ears.
