Parent to Parent: Our Child Safe
When a child goes missing experts say seconds count. That's why some parents are registering their kids with a new online service that gets out photos and info to police right away. 7's Lynn Martinez has more in tonight's Parent to Parent.
WSVN -- Allison can't help but worry about her 13-year-old daughter lauren when she's not with her. That's why she registered both her children with our child safe amber alert registry and medical vault.
Allison: "It gives me peace of mind, absolutely, especially with my 17-year-old son who is pretty much out on his own."
Our Child Safe allows parents to keep updated pictures and info about their kids, and if there's an emergency they send everything to authorities right away.
Zephora: "An Amber Alert typically takes two to four hours to issue due to the information that law enforcement needs to gather so every minute is critical, so to be able to issue that information that law enforcement needs in 30 seconds or less is just a really powerful tool."
But it's not just for missing kids. Parents can also store medical information critical for doctors if there's an emergency.
Zephora: "You can get that information and send it to the hospital immediately, so before you even hop in your car, you're doing something to assist your child."
The cost is about $20 for the first child and $5 for each additional sibling. The company also works with schools and non-profit groups.
David Hall, Deliver the Dream: "It's recognized by our families as a very easy way to register their children and have an extra net of safety."
Kids like the idea too.
Lauren: "It makes me feel better than before, because now I feel safe."
And with 800,000 kids reported missing every year, it's a resource many parents are happy to have. It's up to parents to keep the site updated with recent photos and medical information.
