Parent to Parent: Girls Skin Care
Little girls are fascinated with the lotions and potions their moms use to make themselves look beautiful, but up until now, there were no products safe for young skin out there for them to experiment with. In tonight's Parent to Parent, 7's Lynn Martinez introduces us to a beauty line made just for girls.
WSVN -- When Carry was 12-year old, she used to love watching her mom Nichole get ready in the morning.
Carly Galinkin: "I remember sitting on a chair in the bathroom and watching her, she would put on eyeshadow and I would want to try."
But her mom didn't want her putting a lot of chemicals on her young skin.
Nichole Galinkin: "We're careful what we put in our bodies, we watch what we eat as much as we can, so obviously what we put on our skin is important too."
That's where Joon comes in. Local mom Tameka Linnell created the natural skin care line just for girls ages six through 12.
Tameka Linnell: "There were baby products and adult products but there was this huge void in terms of natural healthy products for girls."
Tameka knows girls love to experiment with beauty products so she wanted to come up with a skin care line free of chemicals often found in adult products.
Tameka Linnell: "There was a list of ingredients we said we don't want these in our products."
Joon's face washes, body creams and mists are free of phthalates, which can affect a young girl's hormones. They also contain no mineral oils or sulfates which can irritate the skin.
Tameka Linnell: "Moms can feel comfortable that they're rubbing something on their skin that is natural."
Carly loves using the face wash every day.
Carly Galinkin: "I like face creams because I'm getting at the age where I'll get pimples and they definitely help."
Her mom is happy she is getting into a routine of taking care of her skin.
Nichole Galinkin: "I think it motivates her to go wash her face on her own and maybe I don't have to remind her as much."
Tameka says Joon's mission is to educate young girls on how to pay attention to labels, make healthy choices and feel good about themselves.
Tameka Linnell: "It's a fun way for girls to learn and experiment and start healthy skin care habits."
Lynn Martinez: "Tameka is now working on a natural deodorant made just for girls. Joon is available on line and in whole foods stores."
