Parent to Parent: Making Music
If your child has dreams of making it big in the music industry, there's a school made just for them. 7's Lynn Martinez shows us how they can achieve success in the studio in tonight's Parent to Parent.
WSVN -- Joel Garcia has always loved music, but figured it was just a hobby until he seriously considered his future.
Joel Garcia: "I was really trying to decide what do I really have a passion for what do I really want to work for?"
He knew music was his life but wasn't sure how to turn it into a career. Then Joell found SAE Institute one of the largest audio-visual schools based right here in Miami.
Franklin Socorro: "I think anybody who has a passion for music, and wants to get into the music business, this is a great place for them."
Franklin Socorro should know, he's worked in the studio with some of today's hottest artists from Fergie to Lenny Kravitz to a star we lost too soon.
Franklin Socorro: "Eventually with Amy Winehouse on her 10 million selling Back to Black, which I was also nominated for a Grammy for."
Franklin is an audio engineer, a critical part of the recording process.
Franklin Socorro: "What that means is I'm in the room and I'm facilitating all the technical aspects of the recording."
He calls it capturing the magic and he wanted to share his knowledge with young people. Franklin tells his students you don't have to sing or play an instrument to make a hit record.
Franklin Socorro: "They find this niche, this person who's a key player in the whole creative process, this is a way to get in."
Joel is into house and dance music and wants to produce his own tracks so he enrolled in the audio technology program.
Joel Garcia: "It would teach me how to engineer sound, which would tie into music hand in hand."
Joel's parents are happy he's following his passion and are confident he's on the right path.
Ruth Garcia: "I'd like to see him be successful in his career, that he does make it big."
Joel Garcia: "This is essentially what I would listen to on headphones."
Joel plans to get his degree and follow his dream.
Joel Garcia: "If possible work with great artists that are in the music industry and help them shine as bright as I would."
Lynn Martinez: Another benefit? Once you graduate SAE will help place you in your first job.
